'Waves of Love', is quintessential THIS IS WAR! funky bass lines, drum barrages, and a big guitar. Vocally it is immense, energetic and vibrant it builds and builds as it progresses, it’s a big sound yet its complex with a plethora of melodies and trademark hooks, blistering solos and a driving bass and drum groove that leaves you breathless. Waves of Love features on their 'Rotten' EP released earlier this year.
Now it’s had a makeover in the form of a brand-new REMIX released on 26th May by The Hats Ian McCoy.
Ian has taken Waves of Love and turned it in to a dance anthem for the summer. Gone are the big guitar leads and riffs, the bass and drum groove are still in there but it’s been tweaked and turned on its head, with electronic pulsating grooves, rhythms and tones. But don’t be fooled, the vocal, already immense, is there for all to hear, added echo and reverb give the vocal an almost haunting feel yet it still contains the bite.
But there is more, THIS IS WAR! Are set to release an accompanying video due for its premiere on the 24th June at 6pm. I was lucky and privileged to be given a sneak preview of the video and was asked to review it. I have to say this is a first for me as I usually concentrate on the music. Not one to shy away I thought I would give it go.
Complex flowing geometric visual patterning
Firstly, I have to say that the production quality is second to none, clean, crisp and vibrant visuals instantly appeal. The complex flowing geometric visual patterning coupled with the vibrancy of the track itself provide a perfect coupling that draws you in and keeps you there.
Its a kaleidoscope of multi-faceted imagery and takes you on a trip into an inner world, sitting somewhere between the waves of love. The imagery is vivid, a neon backdrop allowing dancers to shine in a haze of psychedelia. Like a journey into the inner soul where waves of love form, it gets the frontal cortex of the brain tingling. Highly immersive, you feel you are in there.
Digital imagery blended with techno/house with just a touch of indie psychedelia
Everything fuses and matches perfectly to the groove and multitude of beats; everything is in step and it just flows beautifully. It’s the sort of thing that should be projected onto a backdrop in club land, it fits with ethos of the track, digital imagery blended with techno/house with just a touch of indie psychedelia…a great match and a stunning creation.
A neon backdrop allowing dancers to shine
Having already being played by the BBC, its about to hit the shores of Ibiza and Thailand where its sure to be a big hit with clubbers and partygoers alike. Definitely a summer anthem and now with this video further cements it as a clubbers favourite. THIS IS WAR! Have put a different slant on what they do and it works…it works really well, the creativity in both their audio and visual creations are plain to see and deserves acknowledgement.
