Blow Dry - The Silver Lines

@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

The Silver Lines were Formed in 2018 by brothers Dan and Joe Ravenscroft who said they were “Uninspired by the current landscape of guitar music” they decided to take matters into their own hands and make music their own. After the addition of two new members the line-up consists of Dan Ravenscroft (Vocals), Joe Ravenscroft (Guitar), Joe Cartwright (Bass) and Kindo (Drums).

The band then went on to release a number of successful tracks such as ‘Roamer’ in 2018 and ‘Love Made’ along with an EP 'Sleaze' and 'Hotel Room' in 2022, to name but a few. The Silver Lines have consistently sold-out hometown gigs, received streams in excess of 100k and have had plays on the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X and have played multiple festivals from England to America.

Now in 2023 and being “Repulsed by the notion of being just another ‘all white male indie’ band that sings of teenage love or rants empty pseudo prophetic quotes”, The Silver Lines set out to release new music that defies the genre and the peers within it. The product is a very self-aware form of song writing that covers many taboo topics from toxic masculinity, learnt behaviours from past generations, and explores personal experiences that connect with the listener on a much deeper level.

An ingenious 2 chord riff

March 2nd saw their first release of 2023 ‘Blow Dry’ and is a reflection on some of today’s uglier parts of society all over an ingenious 2 chord riff! There’s no messing about with this track, from the off it’s a no holds barred rocker with a real punk feel. Driven by pummelling drums, and a thundering bass line. Packed with energy, the vocal is fantastic, delivering snide innuendos with just a hint of venom. It really packs a punch and reflects on todays society and the now fashionable cancel culture.

Delivering snide innuendos with just a hint of venom

The backing vocals raise it up a level and give the track a lift, the chorus is melodic yet the punk sentiment shines through against a backdrop of edgy guitars that have bite. The mid-section slows down and takes a turn, with a solo that’s heavy, more rocky yet it doesn’t detract from the vibe of the song. Complete with pick scrapes the song builds to crescendo adding a touch of aggressive desperation.

A backdrop of edgy guitars

Overall, its a driven, highly energetic track, relevant to todays’ society, reflecting on its ugly side. Its punchy, edgy and very catchy, The fusion of a punk style verse with a more melodic chorus and the harder, rockier middle eight works really well and highlights the band’s unique approach to song-writing. They have a unique sound when compared to the indie brand of today, yes, its indie yet it has a Pistols/Clash attitude in my opinion.

Unique approach to song-writing.

Blow Dry has already premiered by John Kennedy on Radio X, its real banger of a tune and is sure to be fans favourite when played live. Silver Lines have a number of upcoming gigs including a trip to the US. Big things are sure to come for these lads from Birmingham.
