Blue - Jack Fletcher Band
By Daffs aka @TwoDaff
I have been a follower of The Jack Fletcher Band for many years since first hearing ‘Young man at heart’ on Mod radio many moons ago. I was instantly struck by their no-nonsense attitude to music. Since then they have gone on to release a plethora of rock infused indie tracks that tell of everyday life bringing a relevance with a live for the moment attitude. The Indie-rock four piece from Wolverhampton are what can only be described as real- with their stripped back guitar music.
The Jack Fletcher Band consists Jack Fletcher (Vocals/Lead guitar), Henry Bradley (Bass), Kieron Ansell (Rhythm Guitar) and Tom Robinson (Drums). Their musical tastes, ranging from Mod bands such as The Jam, The Who through to Led Zeppelin and Jim Hendrix right the way to Oasis, Richard Ashcroft and Jamiroquai.
Having been together for nigh on ten years, they have toured up and down the country and even supported the likes of McFly. I was lucky enough to see them last year in little old Inverness and was completely blown away by their sound, probably one of the best live sounds around in my opinion. Add to that they are a great set of lads. Thankfully they are returning this year in April (Tickets already in the bag)
One of the best live sounds around in my opinion
They have a multitude of previous releases such as 'Carousel', 'The Assassin', 'Something in the water' and more recently 'Phoenix' to name but a few. The main thing you get with these lads is well written, articulate and relevant lyrics backed with a fantastic vocal (Likened to Kelly Jones) with flamboyant guitar riffs, pummelling drums and a bass line that grooves. They are certainly no slouches when it comes to making music, perfectly honed with a real rock/indie vibe. Its honest rock n roll that is relevant today as it was 10 years ago, yet it’s a unique sound and you just know they enjoy what they do.
Articulate and relevant lyrics
Now they are back with their latest song ‘Blue’ released on January 20th. And what a song it is. It opens with Jack's breath-taking vocal, soulful and emotive backed with a smooth melodic guitar lick that swirls and carries you away. The track drifts through the first chorus before a gentle drum and bass pattern come in, its clean and uplifting fusing together in a dreamy mix of sound, you can almost here the ocean lapping at the shore.
A dreamy mix of sound
Then the waves hit you for the anthemic chorus, a change of pace and sound, drums crash in with great harmonies ‘In a world so blue…’ crowds will be singing this back. It’s a fantastic track, filled with melodies, a great guitar solo that just soars and a vocal that really does take some beating. I cannot believe this band don’t get more recognition. They have a sound that will appeal to many people. This track is already on my list of top tracks for 2023 it’s that good. These guys know what they are doing.
A great guitar solo that just soars
Add to this the fact that their live shows are fantastic, they have a presence that keeps you pinned, they really involve the audience and yet they are honest. If you get a chance check em out on their up and coming tour. You will be blown away.
