Hailing from Caerphilly, Stellar Echoes, an alternative indie four piece bring indie vibes and true soul, Influences ranges from a number of genres, Alternative, Psychedelic, Indie and Shoegaze and all these genres are drawn from with their sound. Formed during lockdown when a renewed rush of enthusiasm to write music again after letting it slip by inspired them, the decision was made to just do it and record their songs properly rather than let them go to waste.
Stellar echoes are currently in the process of recording…well…as much as they can with an aim to get an album out there. The songs are written by vocalist and guitarist Huw Webb. The band describe their music as Psychedelic shoe-gaze garage rock.
They released their debut ‘White and Blue Eyes’ back in 2022 followed by ‘Long Walk Home’ on 28th July 202, now they are back with their latest creation ‘Break of day’ released on 9th June. The band say
“Break of Day was written on New Years Day, most likely with a hangover. Lyrics never feel like a conscious thing when writing, but with the chorus pleading to “Let the night fade, let me feel the break of day” there’s a clear hope of new beginnings and longing for new horizons throughout the song”.
A crescendo of glorious sound
Once again, they pull out all the stops. Initially, it has an atmospheric intro with a strummed clean guitar backed with a swirling ethereal sample…but not for long, it erupts into a crescendo of glorious sound, deep driven guitars, thumping drums and bass. It’s a wonderful rich and vibrant sound and needs maximum volume to appreciate it.
A myriad of melodies and riffs swirl and tantalise
The vocal is huge, powerful, energetic and confident. For only a third single its highly accomplished. It’s a huge sound, elements of the shoegaze genre are evident, hints of BMC, early Verve maybe but it sounds huge. As with their last track, its complex, a myriad of melodies and riffs swirl and tantalise you, inviting you in, deeper and deeper until you are fully absorbed.
Thundering bass and drums that pack a punch
I am a big fan of the sound produced here, as with 'Long walk Home' Its complex, and has a real vibrant bounce to it. It has all the swagger and intent you would come to expect from a modern indie band yet there is more to it, the shoegaze elements give it more complexity, a uniqueness. I love tracks that are guitar heavy, and this does not disappoint, it hits hard. Plenty of effect and volume backed with thundering bass and drums that pack a punch create a soundscape that requires a big vocal and its there in abundance. A big voice for a big sound.
A soundscape that requires a big vocal and its there
I am a big fan of Stellar Echoes and have been waiting for this for a long time, hopefully there is much more to come because they have much more to offer. Every track is an anthem, every track has energy, power and above all quality. Big year ahead methinks.
