Chasing The Ghost - Apostles

@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

Formed in October 2019, Apostles are Wigan Based Music Makers in the UK who aid indie rock revival by combining tunes of past and present to produce a quality sound with anthemic choruses. The band consists of George Lyons (Vocals), Joe Smith (Lead Guitar), Rob Davies (Rhythm Guitar), Ian Morris (Bass Guitar) and James Brown (Drums).

After a strong start with a number of songs including ‘Waste a Moment’, ‘Abide’ and ‘Goldrush’ the pandemic hit and its effect on the UK music scene took its toll. This didn’t deter the band however, they continued to release more tracks including the well-received ‘Sixteen’ and the anthemic ‘Take it all’. They have featured on a number of renowned radio stations such as XS Manchester which has helped them break into other areas of the UK.

They have just released their latest single ‘Chasing the Ghost’ on 18th May showing us that the band have no intent on letting up, bringing their anthemic, rousing ethos to the ears of eager listeners. And this track shows, highlighting their undoubted talents in creating tracks that are not only anthemic but fresh and vibrant.

A groove and vibe that makes you want to dance

Opening with a chiming baggy style guitar before drums come crashing in with groove that can only come from Manchester. Reminiscent of the halcyon days of the hacienda (in my mind) it has a groove and vibe that makes you want to dance. Guitar’s chime and glisten throughout, similarities to early Mondays are evident in the instrumentation yet there’s more to it. It has a resonance, a vibrancy that chimes and rings out, drawing you in.

A vibrancy that chimes

The vocal adds an edge, silky smooth and melodic with a touch of Northern grit, it bites through the crescendo of guitars and drums to deliver the lyrics with an undeniable swagger. Its strong and melodic and delivered with a touch of emotive intent.

A touch of Northern grit

The track builds to a chorus that hits you like a juggernaut, energetic and rousing, a sure-fire crowd pleaser. Packed with intricate guitar riffs, driving basslines whilst the drum groove keeps things tight. Intensity builds to a crescendo, layered riffs and the stomping drums are overlaid with a soaring, glistening solo that takes us to a climax.

Energetic and rousing

This is the first track I have heard from this band, it led me to dive into their back catalogue. They have a great sound, accomplished and delivered with all the swagger and sentiment that bands from that area are known for. Being a fan of the 80’s/90’s indie music this band really appeal to me, they are modern yet they possess that familiar indie vibe and deliver everything with an energetic fervour. This is an exciting band and I am really looking forward to what comes next. Big things I imagine. So give this a listen, available in all the usual places, it doesn't disappoint.
