Coloured Lights - Palo Alto

Palo Alto are a four-piece Indie Disco band from the bordering city of Carlisle. The band are reviving the indie disco sound, genre-fusing huge pop hooks, tight grooves, and basslines that slap with a psychedelic twist.
Formed not long before the first lockdown Palo Alto consist of Lucia (Vocals and keyboard), Michael (Guitar), Alex (Bass) and Nathan (Drums). They have worked behind the scenes writing and recording their first set of tunes, including debut single 'Easy Money' and second single 'The End of the World'. As restrictions were lifted in 2021 the band performed gigs in Manchester, Glasgow, Carlisle and many festivals including Solfest + Wild on The Wall festival.
Palo Alto's debut single went down a storm gaining the attention of actor/music lover Robert Carlyle, it was playlisted by "This Feeling" and achieved over 2000 streams on Spotify. Their second single surpassed the first, gaining over 7000 Spotify streams and plenty of radio play.
Now Palo Alto are back in 2023 armed with a new set of carefully crafted tune exploring a new set of eclectic sound, they are ready to take the music scene by storm. They released their 3rd Single 'Coloured Lights' on 19/05/2023. 'Coloured Lights' started life as one small bass groove, before expanding and evolving into what it is now.

Coloured Lights see’s the band take a sidestep from the disco beats of Easy Money and the funk driven vibes of The end of the world to a reflective, chilled out sound, atmospheric whilst still retaining their core influences. Hints of 70’s disco fused with funk and soul with a modern indie twist.
An addictive groove that rolls
A melodic intro riff, backed with keys introduces us to a wonderful, gentle vocal, complete with harmonies. It has a laid back, totally chilled feel, nothing heavy, full of glorious hooks, with clean funk guitar riffs intertwining with melodic bass lines and gentle drum patterns. The keys add atmosphere and create colour. It has an addictive groove that rolls and twists throughout.
A great voice sultry and provocative
There are many layers, you hear something new upon every listen, whether it be a drum fill, a riff or a bass note. It feels upbeat and easy on the ear. The vocal is wonderful, Lucia has a great voice sultry and provocative and blends perfectly with the instrumental. It’s addictive.
There’s a cool, laid-back guitar solo, it has an indie vibe that intertwines with funk rhythms and a steady disco beat. It’s a great fusion spanning different genres brought together to define a sound that’s both unique and vibrant.
A sound that’s both unique and vibrant
To be honest, I have to admit, this is the first track I have heard from this band (Sorry folks) but I have to say I like the vibe and sound they produce, having delved into their previous releases they have an accomplished sound, producing elements of funk, blues, soul and even a hint of jazz but all the while keeping an indie attitude and undertone.
