Devil's Child - Vandal

@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

Belfast Alt/ rockers Vandal are set to release their new single ‘Devil’s Child’ on February 23rd 2023, marking a brand-new beginning for the band with the addition of two new members. The band now consists of Gerard Mclarnon (Vocals, Guitar), Andy McCarney (Guitar), Deaglan Martin (Bass) and Michael Tinnelly (Drums). Following on from the success of previous releases ‘Demons’ and ‘Come back Around’ Devils child is their third release and is inspired by the 1976 Horror classic, “The Omen”.

Vandal haven’t released music in over 7 months, with both previous releases being met with much acclaim in the local scene, so this release is simply the band starting from where they left off. Described as a blend between Foo Fighters and Led Zeppelin, both massive influences on the band’s sound. Devil’s Child was recorded and produced by Neal Calderwood in Manor Park Studios and to celebrate this release, The band are headlining The Students Union on Saturday, March 18th.

A glorious rock track

About the song Gerard says

I remember watching the movie and thinking it would be cool to write a song about that, I’d had most of the music already, so I added lyrics and brought it to the lads to Vandalise it.

A massive guitar sound

This is the first track I have heard from the band so I am always excited about hearing something new, and this does not disappoint in anyway. Instantly you are hit with a massive guitar sound, something I really like. It has classic sabbath vibe infused with a touch of Zeppelin packaged together with a modern twist. The drums are huge, powerful and along with the bass resonate in the ear drums. It’s a real head banger. If you like your music loud then this is for you.

The vocal is immense

It’s a complete wall of explosive guitar driven sound, packed with all the energy you would come to expect when listening to vandal says Gerard. The vocal is immense, it has to be, delivered with power and really showcases Gerard’s ability and the strength within his voice. Its brooding and atmospheric with an intense energy that builds to crescendo as the vocals soar.

Brooding and atmospheric

The guitar solo pulls no punches, explosive and powerful it’s a glorious rock track, gritty and expansive that has a rhythm that will leave your head spinning, there’s an air of foreboding yet its lifted by the vocal, it’s a great sound. I am already looking forward to seeing what else Vandal have to offer.
