Double Time - Fat Dads

@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

I have been a big fan of Fat Dads since their inception and the release of ‘Trust and Promises’ back in 2022. They hail from Carlisle, the Wirral and Kirkcudbright. Influenced by The Strokes, Sports Team and RATS they have a sound harking back to the garage/indie scene of the noughties, with their catchy indie infused tunes. Fat Dads are Tyee Wright (Vocals), Steven Dixon (Guitar), Mike Smith (Guitar), Alex Whittaker (Bass) and Andy Graham (Drums).

Since then, they have followed on in their unique style, evolving and getting stronger, releasing a number of successful singles such as ‘Taking our Sweet Time’, ‘Filthy Animal’, ‘Girlfriend’ and the brilliant ‘Clout Chasers’ EP. They have gained airplay on Radio1 and Radio X building a loyal fan base through social media.

Heavy on attitude

Their tracks are heavy on attitude yet they are honest, fun and have the fat dads DIY sensibility. Great music that defines their ethos, singalong choruses, great lyrics combine to give catchy songs with a swagger and a touch of humour.

They are set to release their latest track ‘Double Time’ on 8th June available from all the usual places. Once again, they show that they aren’t afraid to mix things up a little. Previous tunes have a distinct jangly almost 60’s vibe. Double time really steps it up in both level and sound.

Brash and brazen and in your face

Opening with a trademark Fat Dads riff, melodic and catchy before the thunderous drum beat and driven guitars create a heavier sound whilst the riff undulates within. Its brash and brazen and in your face. The drums are like a barrage of sound powering the track forward, whilst a banging bass line whips the guitars into a frenzied wall of sound.

The vocal blends perfectly, smooth and melodic creating a bit of swagger, but don’t be fooled, this track bangs. It’s a true anthem. It takes a leap forward from the jangly 60’s vibes into a glam infused indie rocker. Hints of T rex seep and ooze from the vocal. It’s a sure-fire crowd pleaser that will take the roof off any venue. Its high energy rock n roll, 70’s glam rock moulded into a summer indie anthem. Its upbeat, addictive and catchy as hell.

A glam infused indie rocker

it sets off at 100mph and just keeps going, made for blasting out loud, complete with the occasional scream and the odd expletive just gives it that little bit more edge. It has bags of energy, a vibrancy that grabs you by the scruff of the neck and hits you in the chest with a thud. A proper anthem, no frills, no intricate solo’s just a rhythm that lifts you, a drum beat that hits hard backed with scorching driven guitars and a sparkling lead riff that intertwines adding a touch of colour.

A vibrancy that grabs you by the scruff of the neck

This is going to be a firm favourite with everyone. Fat Dads just keep delivering in their own unique way, they don't mess about, they do things their way, its a great attitude. In my opinion this is their best track to date. Another brilliant tune. I love it.
