Drop Your Arms - SENSES

@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

SENSES formed whilst at school in Coventry, bonding over a love of diverse, underground music. influenced by shoegaze romanticism, alternative experimentation, and indie ambition, they have been making music and gigging around the UK since . A certain chemistry was apparent from the outset, and they have remained a solid unit despite now being located in Coventry, London and Germany.

The band consists of Brian Callan (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Kevin Kavanagh (Guitar), Rónán O’Connor (Bass) and Ian Finnegan (Drums, Keyboards, Backing Vocals) and signed to 42’s Records last month. They are set to release the second of three singles 42’s Records are releasing in quick succession, paving the way for their debut album on 21st April.

Ronan O’Connor said:

We are buzzing to be working with 42’s Records – the response to HARDER NOW as our first single on the label was amazing, now we are stepping things up again with DROP YOUR ARMS. It’s a song that came from jamming in rehearsals rather than one somebody brough to a session. There was a real urgency and energy there which comes across especially the way drums are pushing the song, and from there layers of guitars came in”.

A non-stop roller-coaster of an anthem

'Drop your Arms' is a non-stop roller-coaster of an anthem from start to finish. Laden with feedback and samples it leaves you breathless. Opens with a rich deep and vibrant guitar and pounding drums, it instantly lifts you, it hooks you and draws you in making you want more. It’s a fantastic sound that reverberates around your head.

A vocal that bites

It’s about dropping your guard, being vulnerable, taking a risk, fighting for something or someone you believe in, the lyrics are honest, relatable and delivered with a vocal that bites. “Is this the best dream you ever had? Is this the best dream you won’t allow? Is this the best dream you ever had without feeling?"

Seamless riffs and a barrage of drums pulsate and blister

Its pure indie rock n roll that will delight gig goers, a massive sound that will blow the roof. Its thunderous, upbeat and has a chorus that sticks in your head. Everything blends perfectly, seamless riffs and a barrage of drums pulsate and blister taking you to a breakdown that is explosive, infused with feedback and riotous guitars…what more can you ask for… More maybe? Definitely!

Infused with feedback and riotous guitars

You can hear the influences, leap frogging genres, including 90’s Britpop. Shoegaze from the ride stable, Doves and The Verve but influences are good right? In any case its justified, they have made their own sound and its good…very good. It’s a song that has repeat button written all over it.

Set to release another single in April and then the Album the next few months are going to be massive for the band. The album, I’m told is packed with uplifting anthems beside more emotive and introspective songs, connected by mysterious snippets of spoken word, the album takes on a cinematic quality, finding beauty in everyday life.

I for one cannot wait, this track hits hard and literally had me scrambling for the volume button, it’s addictive and I for one want more. Bring it on!
