One of the fantastic things about writing reviews/blogs etc is discovering new bands that you haven’t previously heard; it always excites me when a band makes contact with a track to review. So, I was pleased to be contacted by Ali from Deltamanic with a request to review their latest track.
Firstly, a bit about the band…
Deltamanic are a 7-piece band from Alloa, Scotland. Formed in 2021 when frontman Dean Oliver brought a group of childhood friends together to create a powerful line-up of 3 guitars, 4 singers, bass, drums & keyboard, Deltamanic have crafted a unique mix of styles including Funk, Rock n’ Roll, Indie, Soul & Disco, all with live shows in mind.
The band consists of Dean Oliver (Lead Vocals/Lead Guitar), Kyla Brisbane (Vocals), Ross McShane (Guitar/Vocals), Jack Pickles (Bass/Vocals), Callum Stewart (Rhythm Guitar), Ben Hunter (Keys/Synth) and Ali Boag (Drums).
In 2022 the band went from strength to strength, selling out their first show at The Royal Oak in Alloa off the back of the response to singles 'Come on now', 'Free My Soul' 'Manic Chaos' and 'Light Me Up'. Their debut EP 'Midas Touch' then followed in August supported by the single 'Find Yourself Lost' which received National and International airplay on Amazing Radio in the UK & US.
Following on from 2022’s debut EP 'Midas Touch', Deltamanic’s 2nd EP “False State of Affairs” due out I April, sees the band experiment further with their Funk influence. Featuring 5 tracks heavily inspired by the Funk & Soul scene of the 70’s, as well as drawing comparisons to bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers & Ocean Colour Scene, the new EP is a creative step forward for the band.
Funk driven guitar leads
The lead single from the EP ‘False State of Affairs’ is due out on the 17th March 2023 and see’s the vocal duties shared between Ross, Dean and Kyla. The verses are split between Ross and Dean while supporting vocalist Kyla lends her soulful voice to the chorus.
Opening with a dramatic spacey chime and a rush of cymbals. The track takes off on roller-coaster of funk driven guitar leads backed with deep resonating funky bass notes and an upbeat drum beat. Its catchy, melodic and highly energetic.
Catchy, melodic and highly energetic.
The opening vocal is strong, it has to be, the sound is huge, its filled with grooves and licks, a mix of supercool funk fused with all the swagger of indie rock with just a hint of soul. It’s a great sound, refreshing, uplifting and vibrant.
Supercool funk fused with all the swagger of indie rock with just a hint of soul
This track has many layers, its complex yet each member shines through, the lead guitar, soars, hints of Squire (Second Coming) in parts, intertwined with spacey keys, crunching rhythms, deep bass notes and a fizzing drum that crackles and pops throughout. All create a backdrop for the vocals, delivered with accomplished ease. The verses are powerful whilst the chorus has more soul, a great blend of rock and 70's funk.
Crunching rhythms
Its always a pleasure to hear something new, something that doesn’t conform to the norm, Deltamanic do this with consummate ease, I thoroughly recommend you listen to these. This track will have you up grooving and shaking its bound to be a crowd pleaser when played live. Really impressed with this track. Bravo!
