Fat Dads - We can work it out

@TwoDaff

By DAFFS aka @TwoDaff

I have been following and more importantly been a fan of this band pretty much since their formation back in 2022. Fat Dads (none are fat and none are dads by the way) hail from Carlisle, the Wirral and Kirkcudbright. Influenced by The Strokes, Sports Team and RATS they have a sound harking back to the garage/indie scene of the noughties, with their catchy indie infused tunes. Fat Dads are Tyee Wright (Vocals), Steven Dixon (Guitar), Mike Smith (Guitar), Alex Whittaker (Bass) and Andy Graham (Drums).

After their successful debut release ‘Trust and Promises’ back in June 2022 followed by their classic summertime tune. ‘Taking our Sweet time’ the band have steadily built up their fan base through social media even tapping in to the Louis Tomlinson fandom. Both tracks have featured on numerous playlists and gained airplay on Radio1 and Radio X with John Kennedy in particular.

Their third track ‘Filthy animal’ was released on 4th November, and yet again brought with it the Fat Dads attitude, honesty, fun, and that DIY sensibility all combined to give you great music. These tracks defined the summer, fun lyrics, singalong choruses fused with catchy melodies and a touch of humour.

On January 13, they released their 1st EP ‘Clout Chasers' which included all of the above plus their latest single ‘We can work it out’. And yet again they surpass all that has gone before, each release raises the bar.

We can work it out continues with their unmistakable melodic vibe, packed with catchy melodies, an upbeat vibe with a rhythm that has you nodding your head and tapping your feet in approvement. The vocal is great, clean, crisp and bright, guitars are not heavy, or distorted. No need for a multitude of effects, the music speaks for itself, packed with great little solos throughout that give everything a lift. It’s a perfect track to start the year.

Packed with catchy melodies

Driven by a thumping bass line overlaid with chopping melodic riffs that create a backdrop for the soaring solo leads. The velvet vocal drips in and out giving an almost warm fuzzy vibe that appeals. They do have a unique sound and i like that. The song builds to a crescendo of a chorus, that lifts you up and has you singing along what more do you need.

As relative newcomers to the scene, having been on the go for a little over a year, they have all the attributes of seasoned well-honed musicians bringing a unique sound, it’s a little sixties, a little indie, seasoned with fun, and finished with a smattering of riffs and hooks that will please old and new listeners alike. Yet its refreshingly modern, no copycat stuff here. The sound is their own and that has to be applauded.

Its refreshingly modern

I am expecting big things from these lads in 2023, I know they have a number of gigs lined up, these will go down a storm. Every track just gets better and better. Give them a go they won’t disappoint. I think 2023 is going to be a big year for Fat Dads!
