Based in Glasgow, Hazy Sundays were formed in August 2022. The consist of Shaun Kenny (Vocals and Rhythm guitar), Mark Devlin (Lead Guitar), Ross McDonald (Bass) and Peter Cannon (Drums). The band have a love for old school Rock n Roll and 90’s Britpop. Influences vary from the libertines to the Beatles, Sex pistols, Twisted Wheel, The Cure, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys. crossing genres that shine through in their music. The band styles itself on high energy rock n roll with meaningful lyrics.
The band are set to release their fourth single ‘Hear the Truth’ on March 3rd 2023 on all streaming platforms. This follows on from a string of well received releases since the band’s inception. From the anarchy drenched stompers such as 'Never Know' and ‘All you ever Wanted’ to their acoustic driven ‘Losing Control’ released earlier this year.
A definitive swagger
Hear The Truth sits somewhere in between the volatility never know and gentler ‘Losing Control’. It has a definitive swagger write from the get go. Opening with a catchy jangle of a driven guitar, it instantly hooks. It’s a modern take on classic Britpop, it’s got an infectious groove, with a drum beat that will have you tapping and nodding in unison.
A plethora of melodic lead riffs
There is a plethora of melodic lead riffs, there is an Oasis-ish feel to the rhythm and lead lines but it is their own sound, its not a copy cat thing. Who cares anyway. Its not fast paced yet there is an energy, guitars are rich, loud and sit on top of the relentless drum patterns and resonating bass lines.
A Lydon-esque edge with just enough venom to make you sit up and take notice
The vocal is just great, again hints of Gallagher yet it has a Lydon-esque edge with just enough venom to make you sit up and take notice. Packed with emotion it almost begs you to hear the truth, a yearning almost “I’m telling so many lies, because I’m hurting inside" it’s a great tone and really shines through.
A vibe that oozes swagger and charisma
The chorus swaggers and swoons backed with scintillating licks, driven rhythms, packed with melodies and catchy as hell. Then there’s a soaring solo, full of bends, slides and dripping in energy, sure to be a crowd pleaser. Hazy Sundays are fast becoming a firm favourite of mine, they have a vibe that oozes swagger and charisma, their blend of influences do shine through yet they have brought the attitude of the Britpop/rock era into 2023 with honest relatable music, accomplished songs that will resonate with many.
For all you gig goers out there, their next gig is at Broadcast, Glasgow on March 5th. Don’t miss it.
