If You're Getting Busy (You're Getting Better) - The Shed Project
By Daffs aka @TwoDaff
Originally a trio The Shed Project are Roy (vocal) Tim (bass) John (rhythm) Olly (lead) Shane (drums). Formed by Roy and John in 2018 in John's garden shed (hence the band’s name) They released their first single ‘Livin’ in January 2020. Nine Singles later and after sold out gigs in Bolton and Manchester and featuring on the Brits and Pieces album, they released their debut album ‘The Curious Mind of a Common Man’ on April 29th 2022 to critical acclaim.
Influenced by the Manchester baggy scene of the late 80’s and 90’s, youngsters they are not and the hard knocks of life along with all the highs show through in their music, no pretence, no bullshit, they tell it as it is…Its relevant, you could say they have re-invented the sound but don’t be fooled, it’s not a re-run or a copy, they have made the sound their own, developed it and taken it to new level. The fact that they produce, mix and master all their track speaks volumes.
Coinciding with the run up to their first national mini tour, which will visit London, Birmingham & Glasgow. The supporting DJ on all dates is MC Tunes, the Manchester legend, who found major success with The Dust Junkies, 808 State and more recently The Hacienda Classical.
Following their last stomping Rock and Rock rollercoaster single ‘If You Know You Know’, XS Manchester- Single of The Week, Bolton band The Shed Project are back with a new single 'If You're Getting Busy [You’re Getting Better]' set for release on February 17th 2023 and is the first single taken from their forthcoming second album due for release in the Autumn.
Teaming up once again to raise funds for Bolton based mental health organisation WhysUp, the single will help spread the word on addiction and mental health. Check out the great work they do on all the usual social media outlets.
An emotion fuelled ballad
Firstly, I have to say it’s a beautiful song, an emotion fuelled ballad full of intricate melodies. It deals with the subject of the pain felt on losing a loved one. It has all the hallmarks of the Shed’s sound yet it’s a step away from the rollercoaster ride of If you know… with all the feeling of 'Bedtime' and the passion of 'Sal'
Full of intricate melodies
Roy’s vocal on this is well…just fantastic, you really do feel the emotion yet its uplifting…as the title suggests ‘If you’re getting busy, you’re getting better. Its rich in sound dripping in lush tones, beautiful lead licks echo and intertwine with a laid-back acoustic canvas creating a colourful, chilled, uplifting soundscape. The lead solo soars, lifting the track to new heights adding that indie baggy vibe to the proceedings.
Dripping in lush tones
The Shed Project as always deal with the difficulties in life that we all face from time to time, yet they put their own twist on things and their music makes some things easier to bear, even the harder things in life are just that little bit easier to handle. This track is one of those, a marvellous, emotional song with an uplifting slant and the trademark Shed project attitude. Fantastic!
