In - Between - The False Peak

The False Peak are a 3-piece Alt rock band hailing from my hometown of Leeds. They consist of Anna Reed (Drums), Caris Shekell (Bass) and Matt Heming (Guitar), both Anna and Caris were also a part of Lunar Sounds. They mix male and female vocals sending strong messages with the addition of pounding drums and lush guitars creating catchy songs.
Their debut release back in 2022 was a track titled ‘The Dreamer’ which was named as single of the day by Even The Stars, Hot Waxx and Baby Step Magazine. They have just released their latest track ‘In Between’ on April 21st, it is available digitally as well as on a unique, hand made vinyl postcard…Bassist Caris says
“We’re really proud of this song and wanted to find a way of giving it a physical release. The postcards were a really cool way of doing that, while still having the track available to stream everywhere”
Vocalist and guitarist Matt says
“The song is about filtering through all the chaos of modern life and finding the spaces with a little ‘Zen’ in. And that can be different for everybody. It’s about how meaning and purpose can be found more readily when you live in the present with gratitude.”

Silky-smooth vocal
Opening with an atmospheric lead riff backed with a deep resonating bass and a subtle drum rhythm, setting the scene for the silky-smooth vocal to take Centre stage. Beginning at a somewhat gentle pace drawing you into the verse and leading you into a false sense of security. The vocal is almost dreamy, yet there is an underlying power with an air of anticipation lingering within.
The drumming is phenomenal
The guitar has an edge, as it trips and intertwines with the bass and drum adding to the intensity before there is a brief pause. A sharp intake of breath and the track takes on a different vibe as the pre chorus kicks in and ups the pace, the drumming is phenomenal, a barrage of beats creating the necessary canvas for the resonating bass to lay down the undercoat for the guitar to add a flourish that leads us into the chorus. Again, the pace is quickened, frenetic and driven.
Leaves you breathless
The instrumental has a an almost punk edge which is softened by the vocal, its catchy, vibrant and really does get you going. Packed with melodic bass lines fast paced drumming and driving guitar riffs with a vocal that is point and leaves you breathless. A great vibe.
Adorned with meaningful and emotive lyrics
I like the way the track alternates between the edgy, fast paced chorus to the more dreamlike verses, adorned with meaningful and emotive lyrics backed with great harmonies. The track builds to crescendo, huge drum solos, power us through, every member of the trio is highlighted, the vocal/guitars, the bass and the drums are all show. Its powerful, accomplished and for a trio is a huge sound,
Having not really heard these before I have to say I am impressed; it’s a great sound and I am already looking forward to what else is to come from this band. I strongly recommend you check this out, it will not disappoint.
