Movies - The Q's

@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

THE Q’s are a 5 piece rock band from North West London now based in Leeds. They consist of Leo Grace (Vocals), Freddie Franchi (Rhythm Guitar), Dexter Burningham (Lead Guitar), Mattia Paganelli (Drums) and Ben Woolford (Bass). Influenced by the anthemic sounds of the late 90’s/early 2000’s alternative rock they have created their own post/punk/pop vibe, packed with energy.

Starting out in a Year 9 music class and after many years of procrastination they released their first song ‘In Neutral’ on New Years Eve 2021 which went on to gain over 10,000 streams. In 2022 they released their second single ‘Tranquilo’ and are now set to release their 3rd and first for 2023. After a string of well received gigs across the North and South they are also returning to London to play The Camden Club on Wednesday 12th April.

An energetic drum beat backed with a melodic chiming guitar

‘Movies’ is set to be released on April 7th. Opening with an energetic drum beat backed with a melodic chiming guitar, giving a sound harking back to the mod revival era in my opinion, this is further emphasised by the vocal. It’s a blend of the anthemic sounds of the 90’s and those days of the glory boys mod hey days.

A canvas for the guitars to chime

It has (in my opinion) a sound of early Squire/Secret Affair…remember them? But brought into the modern day. It’s a sound I like being brought up in that era. It’s got a really catchy beat that creates a canvas for the guitars to chime and intertwine with the melodic vocal. The chorus has the added earworm effect complete with backing harmonies that has you humming away after the track has finished. Its got a feelgood factor, bright and vibrant and as I said catchy as hell.

A unique sound that takes you back to the yesteryear

The Q’s have a delivered a song for the up and coming Summer, it’s a unique sound that takes you back to the yesteryear with a modern twist. With a post/punk/pop feel and relatable lyrics all packaged up into a fresh new sound. It even has the added bonus of a cool bass solo that builds to a piercing lead riff that shimmers and allows the vocals to take over before the instrumental powers us through to the end.

A feelgood factor, bright and vibrant

Its an accomplished track and is set to be a firm favourite, I really like the vibe that the Qs have created here, its got a true indie vibe yet has a feel of the past its unique and refreshing. Can’t wait for more!
