The Resolutions are a Birmingham based indie rock n roll band formed in 2021 consisting of 4 members. Joe Bodman (Rhythm Guitar and lead vocals), Jimmy Lockley (Lead guitar), Dan Caulfield (Bass) Josh Round (Drums). Inspired by a number of great bands such as Oasis, Libertines, Arctic Monkeys to name but a few they bring an intensity and a rock spirit to the indie scene.
They have released a number of tracks including the rocking ‘Cactus Jack’ and the raucous ‘That Girl is coming Home with Me’ and more recently ‘Mr Mister released in December 2022. They are set to play at Dead Wax in Birmingham on May 24th supporting The White Lakes.
Now I have to admit, I hadn’t heard this band until I was contacted by them the other day with a review request for Mr Mister. This is one of the great things about scribbling my thoughts about new music, something always takes you by surprise, whether it be a particular song or band. That’s the beauty of the indie scene, too many bands to keep track of, so when a band gets in touch it’s a buzz to hear what they have created. So, on to the track in question…
Mr Mister as I said was released back in December but the band are currently making an accompanying video for the track so I thought it would be a good idea to highlight the song and give my thoughts before the video is released.
A joyous indie riff
I love the into to this, a joyous indie riff, edgy yet melodic with a bit of echo, adding just enough emphasis to highlight the groove in the melody. Then you get a thump of a drum beat further accentuating the guitar riff, its solid, punchy and addictive, the guitar rolls, and snakes around the beat until you are hit with a deep bass line bringing everything together in pure indie/Britpop style.
Solid, punchy and addictive
The vocal kicks in, edgy, strong and silky smooth, its in synch with vibe created here. Its confident and has an undeniable swagger, as the opening line is delivered with just a hint of scorn, hard to believe this is a relatively young/new band, there’s an air of confidence throughout. The end of the verse see’s the tone changes in the vocal with a snarled “Come on you know it” almost Lydon-esque in its delivery.
An air of confidence
The chorus is upbeat, catchy and has a real bounce in the rhythm, and all the while that lead riff bubbles away underneath, before the bass takes over in verse two, melodic and a real groove. Before we revert to type and the tracks builds to a middle eight that is packed with a barrage of drums.
An undeniable swagger
This is sure to be a great live track it has a real uplifting bounce, its pure indie rock n roll, elements of Oasis, Arctic Monkeys are there but they aren’t at the forefront, just a suggestion, they have a great indie sound and definitely leave you wanting more.
Pure indie rock n roll
I am really excited by these having not heard them before, already listening to their other tracks and eagerly await more. Apparently, they have a plethora of songs on the backburner. Hopefully it wont be long before we hear more. I for one can’t wait.
