@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

Emerald Sunday are a Six-piece Rock band from the North of Scotland. Formed in 2008, they began as a cover band gigging on the local pub circuit. Gradually they started filtering in original material until there setlist was 90% original material. In 2015 they released their debut album 'Revolution' and began to gain a reputation around the country. The Revolution tour saw the band play some memorable shows rubbing shoulders with the likes of Big Country, Primal Scream, The Animals, Example and many more.

In May 2017 Emerald Sunday released their second LP 'Emerald Sunday' which was a huge step up and a return to their more live sound. Recorded at The Tpot Studio in Kinross, the album reached number 17 in the Amazon Rock Chart. On April the 21st 2018 the lads signed their first management contract with Soil lead singer Ryan McCombes's label Music House 37. Shortly after they signed a record contract with American label Rock Avenue Records and a distribution deal with Sony Music.

The following year Emerald Sunday released their 3rd studio album 'Willow' to critical acclaim and briefly overtook Lewis Capaldi in the official Amazon album chart reaching number 4. The record was produced by Richard McNamara of Yorkshires finest, 'Embrace at his studio in Halifax, England. In 2022 they released an EP 'One Sunday Morning'.

Hungry for the revival of genuine Indie/Hybrid Rock, Emerald Sunday, bring their own twist on classic rock ‘n’ roll, mixing in melodic hooks and memorable chorus’s. With a well-rounded line-up made up of Mike Martin (Vocals), Matt Fleming (Guitars), Alan Hunter (Writer/Guitars), Mike Juraszewski (Drums), Scott Crawford (Bass), Andrew Taylor (Keys), they have spent the last few years building up their fanbase, now they are set to release a new single on April 14th 2023 ‘Psychos and War Machines’ and is available to pre order on Itunes.

An ethereal blend of synths and acoustic guitar

An ethereal blend of synths and acoustic guitar creates a haunting introduction. Deep bass and drums enter the fray adding anticipation and an air of apprehension. It’s a powerful vibe that creates a backdrop, a canvas for the rest of the band to paint their picture. A lead guitar drifts in and punctuates the atmosphere with a colourful, glistening riff as the intro builds in intensity setting the scene for the vocal.

Powerful, emotive and expressive

Coming in with line “Here comes the news again, familiar faces hurt my eyes” a total relevance to today, the title says it all. The vocal is fantastic, powerful, emotive and expressive. It has to be, the instrumental is powerful, complex and resonating, building with intensity as the track progresses. Driven forward by the deep, thumping drums there is an underlying complexity, multi layered you here a plethora of swirling synths and intertwining guitars and a rich melodic bass line. It’s a full sound, colourful yet there is an underlying foreboding which shines through in the vocal.

An underlying complexity

The chorus really takes it up a notch, anthemic, as the guitars drive it forward the vocal takes over telling us that we can escape with the lines “Into the land where we can run, like a bullet from a gun, we can ride into the sun” and “Where none can hurt you again”.

Rich in texture and colour

This track builds to a crescendo, huge drums, bass and fantastic heavy driven guitars its full-on rock, it stirs the emotion, it’s a huge anthemic statement about what’s wrong with world today (in my opinion). I have to say it is a massive sound, a track that has to be played loud. Rich in texture and colour, the fusion of power in the instrumental and the heartfelt emotion in the vocals and lyrics deliver a message that is both powerful and relevant.

A huge anthemic statement

Emerald Sunday have created a massive sound here, it will resonate with many, not only in the lyrical content but also in the instrumentation. Loud and powerful, its rich and vibrant, everything is on point, blistering guitars, swirling synths backed with thunderous drums, melodic bass lines and a fantastic emotive vocal. Its accomplished and sure to be a big favourite. Bravo!
