Rebel Run - Jay Tennant

Jay Tennant is a Warwickshire-based indie-rock singer-songwriter with a rich melodic voice and many stories to tell. After the release of the hugely successful Albums ‘From the Far Field’, ‘Escape Routes’ and ‘Forever Roses’ along with a string of critically acclaimed follow up singles ‘Passion Play’, ‘Neo Noir’, ‘The Crystal World' and ‘Blackjack Boogie’. The Midlands based artist returns on 31st March with his latest masterpiece ‘Rebel Run’. Set to be his hardest hitting anthem to date.

I first heard Jay when asked to review ‘Forever Roses’ and was enthralled by the way he portrays each track as a journey, drawing inspiration form the arts and life experiences and formulating this inspiration into harmonious, melodic statements.

Heat and intensity is blended into the melody

'Rebel Run' is a barnstormer. It cannons in with a synth riff that sets off at pace backed with an intense drum beat. It kind of has an upbeat ska vibe with a hint of a middle eastern promise. Its lush and vibrant. Imagine sitting in a car speeding through the Cairo Night…the heat and intensity is blended into the melody and sets the scene…that’s what I picture when listening to this.

And that’s what Jay’s music does, its an audio movie, and shows the skill in what he does, turning music into something that’s visual…I get this with every track. There’s hints and nods to the silver screen, action man and Steve McQueen all feature, delivered with a vocal that is punchy and relentless, whilst sparkling soaring guitars create a backdrop for the verse, the pounding synth riff creates a swirling soundscape for the chorus that is both melodic and addictively catchy.

The track flows seamlessly, building in intensity, it’s a kaleidoscope of sound, no monochrome here but a palette of technicolour transformed into a melodic anthem. It’s a refreshing, bullish and oozes positivity. A song that lifts you off your feet and sends you hurtling off into the ether. Gig-goers will take the roof off when this is played live.

Vivid and colourful

Yet again Jay Tennant has delivered another cinematic sensation, it’s an epic, intense and passionate song that typifies what Jay Tennant is all about, fantastic melodies, great instrumentation, vivid and colourful that create the scenery for the vocals and lyrics that provide the story. Its vibrant, rich and is sure to be a favourite amongst fans and newcomers alike.

Rebel run is sure to be an anthem for the summer, it has that feel. Its another glorious track that illustrates the talent Jay has. With another album on the way too, its gonna be a fantastic year and I for one cant wait for it to drop. Bring it on Jay!
