Sticky Dancefloors - The Lilacs

@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

The Lilacs are a high energy indie band from Wigan, consisting of Ollie Anglesea (Vocals), Sam Birchall (Lead Guitar), Matt Johnson (Bass) and Dave Gomersall (Drums. Formed in 2018 they have successfully made a name for themselves with a string of acclaimed releases such as ‘Vicarage Road’ which is present on over 5,000 playlists and hitting over 200,000 streams on Spotify alone. Other tracks include ‘Something or Nothing’ (one of my favourite tracks) ‘Seen it All’ and ‘Red Flags and Warning Signs’.

They kicked off their career at various local gigs and establishing a local audience I the North West before branching out further afield ad playing sets at Manchester Albert Hall, various O2 academy venues and also the Isle of Wight Festival.

Covid put a halt to gigs in 2020 but they didn’t stop there, they performed live video sessions before returning to the stage where gigs have been getting bigger and busier. Inspired by the likes of The Courteeners and Arctic Monkeys the Lilacs have a unique sound with memorable honest lyrics, feel good melodies and catchy riffs.

Released on March 3rd their latest offering ‘Sticky Dancefloors’ (A tale of Indie night club joy) has already received critical acclaim and featured on John Kennedy’s Radio X and hit the number 5 in the iTunes alternative charts.

Fast paced punk fuelled guitars

This tune bangs, right off the bat, the opening blows the roof. Fast paced punk fuelled guitars set the tone, its full of melodies driven by a thunder of drums and a deep resonating bass. The lead riffs and hooks add colour and texture in that undeniable Lilac style.

An energy charged rollercoaster of a track

The vocal is once again, as with all their tracks, on the money, great delivery and sound with the lyrics that are honest with a hint of Northern humour (yes us Northerners do have a sense of humour) “200 people I never met…on your marks get set”. It is an energy charged rollercoaster of a track, with well-timed pauses between the delivery of the lyrics and the jet fuelled instrumental. Its got an upbeat vibe, dripping in melodies, big guitar riffs and is catchy as hell. What more could you want!

An upbeat vibe, dripping in melodies

Mid song see’s a slight change in pace, the vocal stands clear delivering the lines “You can’t run... You can’t hide…” backed with a pummelling drum and blistering guitar before it all kicks off again and the pace and intensity quickens. This has head my nodding in approval at the numerous repeat plays. It’s a highly addictive track and is sure to be a crowd favourite.

It’s a blend of modern indie pop with a punk undertone, evident in the 100mph guitars and drumming, it will leave you breathless, it’s a great release by the Lilacs and already one of my favourite tracks this year. A true anthem for a night out.

A true anthem for a night out.

There is a real buzz starting to grow around The Lilacs, they are the ones to watch over the coming years. It’s clear to see they aren’t a band to be missed. The band keeps growing and growing with gigs getting louder and sweatier. Playing your favourite tunes from start to finish, you’re only going to want more!!!!

They have a number of upcoming gigs check them out here
