I first saw White Lines last year in Inverness, the were supporting The Capollos and I have to say I was immediately impressed, a really accomplished outfit, great stage presence and a great sound. Powerful, anthemic and energetic Their songs are are packed with melodic guitar riffs, with punchy anthemic choruses and a fantastic vocal.

Powerful, anthemic and energetic

The band consists of Mike McKenzie (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), David Finlayson (Lead Guitar), Olly Tinsley (Drums) and Jay Wallace (Bass). First of a little bit of history…Formed in 2019 by Mike and David originally as an acoustic outfit, they quickly established themselves on the Aberdeen music scene, most notably playing a sold-out show at Cafe Drummonds in which all the money from the show was donated to local mental health charity MHA.

Olly and Jay joined the band just before the recording of their first single 'Wishing Well' before the pandemic hit which as you can imagine made things difficult. However, they didn’t rest on their laurels and quite rightly backed themselves and booked studio time at Magic box in Dundee.

Following this they booked their first headline gig as a four-piece at Aberdeen’s Tunnels in October 2021 for the release of their next single ‘Tidal wave’…a Sell out! They ended 2021 supporting The Capollos and released their third track ‘Speed Limits’

The first half of 2022 saw the band writing new material and honing their live set. Another headline show at Café Drummonds was followed by more shows supporting The Capollos (including the Inverness gig). 2022 ended with the band hitting the studio at 45 Aside in Glasgow and releasing their latest banger ‘Teenage King’ on December 14th 2022.

Of Teenage King the band say “It describes a time during our years when our worlds were much smaller. In some cases, our biggest worry was being invited to the party at the weekend or whether or not our crush liked us back... Egos can be formed and experiences are taken for granted. Eventually, we grow out of this phase. We realise the world is much bigger than we first thought and our lives are only just beginning”.

It really pummels the ear drums

Opening with a deep resonating bass line and a thunderous drum beat that sets the tone for this anthemic track. It really pummels the ear drums…what more do you need! A catchy melodic hook intertwines before the powerful almost snarling vocal hits you. Its strong with real hint of Caleb Followill (Kings of Leon). When we saw them live it was the vocal that really stood out, even Moreso with this track, lyrically its great, we can all relate to it with lines like “Living for the weekend thrills, the girls, the parties, the pills, Oh, what I'd give to be that age" Relevant!

The powerful almost snarling vocal hits you

Its packed with huge riffs and cool melodies, it’s a track that will have you hitting repeat and then hitting it again. The chorus is fantastic, loud and anthemic it has you nodding and tapping your feet, its infectious, for me its their best track to date, the blend of the thumping drums, bass and guitar riffs and the huge vocal really hits the spot. For me its their best track to date. It’s even better live.

Huge riffs and cool melodies

Overall, this is a banger of a tune, its powerful, anthemic and relevant, we have all been teenage kings at some point, hitting the weekend, partying and thinking we are the dog’s bollocks…then we grow up and look at life a little differently and carry on life’s journey whilst taking all those experiences with us.

So... 2023.. White Lines have their next single ‘Eyes on the Table’ ready to go and is due out in March/April and this is set to follow with yet another headline show in Aberdeen…hopefully they will hit Inverness again soon. Give these guys a listen, they are well worth it.
