Thinker - Marseille

@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

Marseille are a young rock n roll band formed in late 2021 in Derby, England. The band consists of Will Brown, Joe Labram, Lennon Hall, Tom Spray and most recently Felix Moxey. The 90's Madchester scene and the 60's Merseybeat is where Marseille draw most of their influences from.

In 2022 Marseille, have already had some success with the singles 'Forget It All' which was played on Soccer Am and the 9 minute monster 'The Jungle'. Over the summer, the band have also performed at the Y-Not and Isle of Wight Festivals.

Following on from ‘Only Just Begun’ released earlier (Review on this site) Marseille return with yet another masterpiece ‘Thinker’ set for release on all major platforms on 17th March 2023. This is their final single in the build up to their debut EP ‘FREEDOM’ EP.

A powerful emotive ballad

Its see’s the band take a step change in sound from their previous tracks. A powerful emotive ballad that’s heartfelt and is sure to catapult the band even further, highlighting the depth of skill and creativity within the band. Marseille lead singer and songwriter, Will Brown, had this to say about the song:

The song was written when I was quite young, maybe when I was about 13 or 14 but Joe saw potential in the song and insisted we bring it back into the light of day. I always saw the song about relationships until recently. I now see it as a song which talks about lost loved ones and all the things you want to say to them now they’re gone.

It tugs on every emotion

It has similarities upon opening to past Oasis tracks such as Masterplan and Cast no shadow for example, but that’s where the the similarities end. A beautiful strummed acoustic intro with a deep atmospheric bass undertone highlighted with a lead that sets up the track for the vocal. Its fantastic, you feel the pain in its delivery, hard to believe that a singer so young can deliver a message in such a way that it tugs on every emotion.

A scintillating lead that shimmers

It really is a beautiful song, the sort that sends a shiver through the spine. It has all the hallmarks of Marseille with a 90’s vibe but its much more than that. The skill in the delivery of the vocal really hits home backed with field of colour and brightness within the instrumental, all accentuated with a scintillating lead that shimmers throughout the track.

An effervescent energy that sparkles.

Marseille aren’t scared to do what they do best, they’re not scared to change things up, this is a huge song, its not brash or brazen, it shows the gentler side yet it has an effervescent energy that sparkles.

SUBLIME!

For a young band, and they are young, It shows a level of maturity, It highlights the skill this band have I abundance. With melodic hooks, atmospheric key changes and with a deep emotional aspect that will tug on the heart, it’s a reflection on the last few years and a timely reminder not to take people for granted and to say what you feel. Marseille certainly do that with this track. To sum this up in one word – SUBLIME!
