Featuring on their latest EP ‘Rotten’ (FULL REVIEW HERE) ‘Waves of Love', is quintessential THIS IS WAR! with funky bass lines, drum barrages, and a big guitar. Vocally it is immense, energetic and vibrant it builds and builds as it progresses, it’s a big sound yet its complex with a plethora of melodies and trademark hooks, blistering solos and a driving bass and drum groove that leaves you breathless.
Now its had a makeover in the form of a brand-new remix due for release on 26th May by The Hats Ian McCoy. Hailing from Jersey he got into dance music at an early age, with limited choices he installed a set of decks so he could play tunes that he wanted to play. This led on to him making and producing his own tunes as well as playing in a number of bands in the 00’s.
With over 50 tracks released on various labels worldwide, predominantly in the genre of electro house. In 2019 Ian left behind The Hats moniker to concentrate on techno. Until now!
A dance anthem for the summer
Ian has taken Waves of Love and turned it in to a dance anthem for the summer. Gone are the big guitar leads and riffs, the bass and drum groove are still in there but it’s been tweaked and turned on its head, with electronic pulsating grooves, rhythms and tones. But don’t be fooled, the vocal, already immense, is there for all to hear, added echo and reverb give the vocal an almost haunting feel yet it still contains the bite.
A pulsating rhythm
It starts gently before a resonating bass line introduces us to a pulsating rhythm that has you up, it drives the track forward whilst the vocal swirls and intertwines. Its catchy as hell. Not heavy techno and not strictly happy house, it falls somewhere in between which most will find appealing. Breaks create an air of tension and anticipation before the groove picks up again and bubbles away as the vocal takes control. It shows that indie/punk/alt rock has a place on the ‘dance scene’ if it falls into the right hands.
The bass groove reverberates and the melodic hooks flutter and tease
It’s a great remix of a great song, its This is War with a huge twist, a great add on to what is a great EP. It adds a different slant to the original vibe without detracting from the This is War ethos. It still has an edge, but it’s been smoothed off, polished. It’s a track that needs volume, the bass groove reverberates and the melodic hooks flutter and tease the eardrums. Definitely a summer anthem and can easily see this being a favourite in Club land. Hats off to Ian!
