When She's There - The Twenty Two

@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

Warrington based Rockers The Twenty Two consist of Joe Rhodes (Vocals/Guitar), Nay Rhodes (Bass), Matt Morris (Lead Guitar) and jack van Dyke (Drums). Formed towards the end of 2019 with a string of false in 2020 they certainly haven’t let any adversity stop them. After a string of releases since then including ‘Just Tonight’ ‘Heartache’, and more recently ‘You’re mine divine’, ‘Kiss Goodbye’ and ‘Dance with me’ they are back with their latest single ‘When she’s There’ Due for release on all streaming platforms on February 17th 2023.

In keeping with their roots, they write songs about life and all the highs and lows associated with it, from nights out on the town to life in a student flat to love and loss with their own brand of punchy heartfelt lyrics and a sound that well…rocks.

Having a diverse range of musical influences they generate a big sound, which is great in my opinion, if you have something to say then say it loud and The Twenty do not disappoint on that score. The important thing though is that songs like ‘When she’s There’ just happen. Joe says “It’s a love song about love triumphing over adversity, not serious adversity like war or illness but adversity all the same” It celebrates the simple things in relationships, the things we take for granted like the sometimes-mundane activities of young love finding its place in the world.

Delightful lyrics are delivered with a heartfelt honesty

When she’s There see’s the band step away from the driven punchy guitar driven anthems that you may be used to yet it’s an honest, relatable song that will resonate with all you young lovers out there. Delightful lyrics are delivered with a heartfelt honesty “She wears jumpers far too big for her and I love that” It has a slight country/pop rock feel fused with a twist of the modern indie sound. It’s a total love song.

A hushed drum groove

Guitars are not heavy but clean and vibrant with a hushed drum groove that keeps things bubbling along. The vocal is brilliant, smooth (and not too high to sing as they often say about their songs). It’s a rich sound, with an almost mournful piano complementing soaring strings in the background. Its quite complex when you get to the nuts and bolts of the song, it has many layers that intertwine and complement each other.

A mournful piano complementing soaring strings

This is something different from The Twenty-Two and showcases their talents, they aren’t just another guitar driven, heavy fast paced band, this track shows a more sensitive side, packed with raw emotion it tells a story that most can relate to, it does exactly what it says on the tin. I have to admit I was surprised when I first heard this track, it’s a beautiful song, simple, modern and effective with a meaning that will resonate with many.

A beautiful song

The Twenty-Two are fast becoming a band that needs to be heard, each track surpasses the previous and that’s a mark of quality. It won’t be long before these lads are picked up. Their sound is immense, its driven, anthemic, melodic and now they can add a bit of sensitivity to the list. Big year ahead, I think!
