Dont Let Me Go - Hitlist

@TwoDaff

By Daffs aka @TwoDaff

Hailing from Aberdeen Hitlist formed just last year and to say they have had a successful start is an understatement. Having a sold-out headline show under their belts already, they have also supported Scottish favourites The Snuts and Yorkshire indie rockers Skylights at their Aberdeen gigs. They are now branching out further afield to Glasgow, Edinburgh and beyond.

Hitlist consist of four members, Callum Jones (Vocals, lyrics and Rhythm Guitar), Calum Chalmers (Lead Guitar), Scott Hardie (Bass) and Ollie Serle (Drums) and draw their influences from the likes of Sam Fender and The Snuts along with many other indie bands.

Their debut single ‘Soul Survivor’ (Full Review Here) released back in February received a lot of attention and rightly so and now they are back with yet another barnstormer of track called ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ due for release on the 19th May. Recorded at a local Aberdeen Studio – Captain Toms its another strong track, a statement of intent to back up their debut.

Opens with a throbbing bass line

The track opens with a throbbing bass line before a stabbing guitar and thumping drum rhythm interjects and leads us to the vocal. Its crisp and vibrant and has a beat that’s catchy. The guitars add an air of anticipation as you wait for the vocal to kick in.

Swirling energetic riffs and melodic fills that glisten

When it does, its strong with a hint of a snarl and grit with heartfelt lyrics. The track is multi layered, the rumbling bass line and almost tribal drums create a pedestal for the waves of guitars to jump on and shine. It’s filled with swirling energetic riffs and melodic fills that glisten as the vocal snakes in and out of the mix. I get hints of The Killers in the vocal, but it’s a hint only, another band that takes their influences, runs with them to create their own sound.

Anthemic and powerful

You can feel tension build as the track builds to crescendo of a chorus, its anthemic and powerful, as a second single its accomplished, they sound like they have been on the go for years and that’s an understatement. Hard to believe if I’m honest.

The soaring vocal delivers the lyrics with a swagger

They have a big sound, its catchy as hell, by dissecting the instrumental you can pick out a plethora of guitar parts that blend perfectly, melodic riffs and lead lines give a full, vibrant feel. The soaring vocal delivers the lyrics with a swagger. Driven by the relentless drumming and vigorous bass lines it has all the makings of a firm crowd favourite. Yet another strong release from the lads in the North, I can’t wait to see what else they have to offer.
